Joe & Heidi bought Howlett's Tavern in 1993. After a very successful 13 years at the old location, they decided to sell the building and try a different career path. But in doing so, they realized that the restaurant business was all they enjoyed doing. After a 3 year hiatus, they have reopened Howlett's Tavern in the heart of Chester. RICHMOND, Virginia (January 24, 2010) - By all measures, the debut of the American Indoor Football Association here was a tremendous success. Nearly 5,000 enthusiastic fans watched Saturday night as the hometown Richmond Raiders defeated an AIFA select team of All-Stars, 49-45.

"There simply couldn't be a better start for Richmond Raiders football," said AIFA co-founder John Morris. "I am so impressed with how Richmond fans responded to the quality of football in our league.

"The atmosphere was sensational, and the fans were very knowledgeable," Morris continued. "We're going to have a lot of Raiders' football fun here in Richmond this coming season!"

The contest was the culmination of three days of activities. Players from around the league participated in the game, while management from various AIFA teams gathered for league meetings held in conjunction with the event. The Raiders built an early lead in the game, withstanding a second-half All-Star rally for the win.

The Kickoff Classic also served as the inaugural telecast for the AIFA's new syndicated television network. The game was transmitted to over 40-million TV homes. The Baltimore Mariners debuted their new radio broadcast team with an Internet radio feed of the game as well.

"This event is growing each year," said AIFA National Director Jack Bowman. "Last year's Kickoff Classic really jump-started the season for the Harrisburg Stampede. I believe the Raiders will benefit from this year's game in a similar manner."

The next edition of the AIFA's Internet radio program, This Week in the AIFA, will provide in-depth coverage of the Classic, as well as other news from around the league.
